Pressure Washing

Pressure washing is a highly effective way of cleaning all hard outdoor sports surfaces. Our high pressure machine removes moss, algae, silt and other detritus from the surface. Regular power washing has a number of benefits- it:

  • Extends the life span of your surface
  • Improves drainage
  • Improves appearance
  • Improves safety

Many private tennis court owners and tennis clubs get an annual pressure wash from Sports Lining Services.

Spraying or Painting

Kevin Heggie, the director of Sports Lining Services is the most experienced sprayer of rubber structure spray in Scotland. This is the material that is sprayed on tennis courts, running tracks, long and high jump areas. We also spray and respray rubber surfaces with protective non-slip coating. A large part of our work also involves spraying acrylic, water based paint on tarmacadam surfaces, for example basketball courts, netball courts, 5-a-side football and of course tennis courts. Kevin does all the spraying by hand himself- a skill passed down to him by his father who taught him as a boy.

All our paint and spray materials come from a quality supplier and have been tested for wear and developed to last.

Non-slip acrylic coating for macadam surfaces

This type of material is a water based paint that is a combination of pigment, sand and glue. It is the coating that we use on all tarmacadam and porous concrete surfaces. It is ideal for tennis courts, netball courts, basketball courts, multisurface outdoor pitches and 5 – a- sides. The paint is applied by a high pressure airless sprayer on to the macadam surface and is available in the colour of your choice. Many tennis courts choose single green, 2 tone green or two tone red and green. Macadam areas that have been sprayed in the past and are looking worn and faded can often be returned to near new condition with a respray of this type of paint. Because it contains the sand the safety of play is also improved as the court becomes more slip resistant. The paint leaves the surface entirely porous and free draining and is ideal for newly tarred areas that are still black.

Structure Spray and Non Slip Coating for Rubber Surfaces

Structure spray is a material made up of glue, rubber granules and pigment. It is sprayed directly on to rubber base mat. It is ideal for porous polymeric athletic tracks, sprint, long and high jump areas and tennis courts. This material is specifically designed to complement the rubber surface underneath, maintaining its underfoot characteristics whilst providing a protective layer and prolonging the lifetime of the surface. Structure spray can be sprayed on new rubber surfaces as well as old ones that are worn or fretting and need a new surface.

On tennis courts, once the structure spray has been completed, we then spray a layer of sand-filled polyurethane coating on top. This coating is oil based consisting of sand, glue and pigment, and protects the rubber surface underneath whilst giving it a non slip effect. It is also strengthens the surface without adversely affecting its porosity.

In some cases, where rubber tennis courts have become faded and worn, spraying the sand filled oil based top coat is all that is needed to make the surface safe and improve traction. It also greatly enhances the appearance of the courts.

Because we have over 30 years experience of spraying sports surfaces, we can assess courts and tracks and be confident that the work we recommend to the client is the best option for maintaining and improving their sports surface. We have seen hundreds of tennis courts and sports surfaces in various states of deterioration, and are happy to discuss and explain the process in any work we recommend to clients.

Rubber surfaces from scratch

As well as resurfacing rubber surfaces Sports, Lining Services can create brand new rubber surfaces. To do this we lay rubber base mat, spray on a layer of structure spray with the rubber granules, spray a layer of non slip sand filled paint and then hand paint the lines using high wear weather proof paint. We can also convert tarmacadam surfaces to rubber at a very competitive price. Many tennis players regard rubber as the premium surface for play, as it is softer to fall on than tarmacadam with great traction and a high bounce factor for ease of play.

Lining

Sports Lining Services can provide a full range of sports lines on grass, 3G carpet, rubber and tarmacadam surfaces in colours to suit your requirements. All our lines fully comply with Sports Council Guidelines and include football, basketball, hockey, tennis, mini tennis, badminton and volleyball. We never use rollers and have been hand-painting lines for over 30 years to give a crisp, even finish

We have lined many multisurface outdoor areas, where lines of different colours represent different sports all on the same court. Some clients have asked us to put a set of basketball lines on their tennis courts, or to add in extra lines so that they can divide up the courts for mini tennis. Sports Lining Services lined the first mini tennis courts in Scotland.

Patching and Repairs

Often tennis courts and sports surfaces can be disrupted by biological weathering as well as misuse, wear and tear. Tree roots, fungus and plants can lift the surface from underneath, making the surface uneven or cracked and unsafe, while waterlogging and poor maintenance can also result in damage. Over-tightening of nets can cause the sockets to lift the surface on either side of the court. As soon as a crack, lump or defect in the surface is noticed, it should be tackled to prevent further damage. If left, it will often develop into a much larger area being damaged, and therefore cost more to repair.

Sports Lining Services has extensive experience in dealing with court defects and takes an individual approach to each type of problem. We can cut out problem areas on rubber surfaces, remove the underling problem- for example a tree root or loose material, and then replace the area we have disturbed with materials to match the surrounding surface. We can replace rubber patches or put in new ones on worn areas. We can also spray binder on areas which have started to fret to strengthen the surface and halt any further damage. Often tennis courts start to wear unevenly with the surface on service lines wearing fastest. Sports lining Services can spray these areas with an extra layer of the appropriate material, and then blend it in with the rest of the court using a non-slip paint.

Sockets and Posts

Tennis clubs often ask us to replace sockets, posts and nets while we are working on their courts. This process involves digging out the existing sockets, resetting new sockets with concrete and putting in new posts. We can do this on both rubber and macadam courts.
